Testing criteria and range of testing

The testing criteria and limit values to be complied with are developed according to the latest state of the art and also product group specifically defined by the eco-INSTITUT.

Extensive lab tests are performed. The focus is on emissions testing (outgassing) in the test chamber (according to ISO 16000). Additionally, analyses of compounds  - depending on the product group - are performed, for example, on selected parametres such as heavy metals, pesticides, halogenorganic compounds.

The advantages of the eco-INSTITUT-Label at a glance:

  • Assignment of the eco-INSTITUT-label for 2 years (a laboratory test is only necessary every 2 years)
  • eco-INSTITUT-label with an individual, allocated certification number for advertising use on the product and in the product documentation.
  • Certificate in three languages (German/English/French)
  • Cost transparency by fixed standard prices and a clear payment system for the use of the label.
  • More safety and improved product quality due to comprehensive emissions and pollutant testing

The advantages for the consumer

Since August 1, 2007, the standarised eco-INSTITUT-Label has gradually replaced the former marks of quality "eco certificate product low-emission pollutant tested" and "eco certificate ecological product test".

* Products are eligible for the eco-INSTITUT-Label if toxilogically harmless and by and large ecologically agreeable

Since January 1, 2016, eco-INSTITUT-Label is accepted by international building rating system BREEAM as third party compliance scheme for proof of VOC emissions from construction products. More infos

On July 1, 2015, the eco-INSTITUT-Label has been recognised by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as an officially accepted compliance path for the LEED v4 EQ Credit for Low-Emitting Materials.
