In February 2013 the "Décret n° 2011-321 du 23 mars 2011 et l’arrêté du 19 avril 2011" has been supplemented by specifications for conditioning of samples of paints, varnishes, coatings, sealants and further paint and varnish products.

The French VOC A+ regulation "Émissions dans l'air intérieur" (published in spring 2011, effective since beginning of 2012 for construction products to be traded on the French market, from Sept 2013 effective for all construction products) applies the ISO 16000-11 as testing method. This method, however, is not particulary precise concerning the sample preparation and conditioning of paints and varnishes.

That is the reason why the sample preparation and analyses are delineated in the recently published "Protocole de préparation des éprouvettes d’essai de peintures, vernis, enduits, vitrificateurs et autres produits de peinture" referring to paint products (according to EN ISO 4618) and paints, varnishes and impregnation agents (with a dry film thickness of ≥ 5 µm in compliance with ISO 16000-11).

Concerning the sample preparation the following aspects are, for instance, stipulated:

Conditioning time (in an aired chamber prior to transition of sample into test chamber):

7 days required for floor coverings (paints and other liquid or semiliquid coating for floor coverings); 3 days required for other filmogenic products

Conditions of use in conditioning chamber to be fulfilled:

one sample per conditioning chamber; temperature 23°C (+/- 2°C); relative air humidity of 50 % (+/- 5%); air change rate between 0, 25 and 1, 5 h-1

The UL ECO-INSTITUT test your products according to the criteria of the French VOC a+ regulation and evaluates already existing test results (e.g. results of AgBB testing) in terms of the regulation. Contact us!
