At the end of December 2024, the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) added vinyl acetate to the Proposition 65 list as a carcinogen, effective 3 January 2025.
This listing was done via the “State’s Qualified Experts” mechanism, based on the Carcinogen Identification Committee’s (CIC) determination that this chemical was clearly shown to cause cancer.
The duty to warn in the event of significant exposure to vinyl acetate comes into force on January 3rd, 2026.
