The GEV has updated its test method and published significant changes with effect from 22 June 2026.

For manufacturers and testing laboratories, this results in two key changes in particular:

New product group 9.1: Hot-melt adhesives

The EMICODE® system has been expanded to include the new product group 9.1, ‘Hot-melt adhesives for spot and line applications in interior spaces’.

A new test procedure for the emissions testing of hot-melt adhesives has been incorporated into the GEV test method. The test is carried out in the same way as for joint sealants, with a layer thickness of 3 mm, a joint width of 10 mm and a loading of 0.007 m²/m³. The relevant procedure is described in the new section 3.2.2.4.

Harmonisation of cluster quantification

In addition, Section 3.6.2.5 ‘Complex mixtures of substances (clusters)’ has been revised. The quantification of clusters in GC/MS has been brought into line with the requirements of DIN EN 16516. The aim is to achieve a more uniform and consistent assessment of complex mixtures of substances. In future, quantification will be carried out using the TIC response factor for toluene; the corresponding LCI values must be taken into account.

Approved GEV testing laboratory
